S.D. Holman: Everything Butch ISNT and Much Much more!

A friend recently sent me this ridiculous link from a artist picture taker who claims to have put a face on Butch, by miraculously using zero Butches in the process. Among the few, the proud, the Butch/Femme, it is easy enough to come across this non sense and simply roll our eyes. The problem arises when images such as these, ignorantly or purposely mislabeled Butch, are what is making their way out into the world. Regardless of the intent behind these pictures, if he were living, PT Barnum could tell you the world loves and will even pay good money for a freak show. And it is precisely this reason and this alone that images such as these are allowed to move beyond the shadows and into the light. The picture taker is clearly, unsuccessfully trying to pull an Arbus on the one hand, and on the other, portray herself as Butch by her cunning use of  images similar to her own with a faulty Butch label.

Many like those seen here are trying to create/imitate Butch with hacked of breasts, masculinising steroidal drugs, external misogyny toward other women via sexism, excessive unshaven body hair, men's clothing and a host of other anti woman/lesbian paraphernalia. In the process and in fact in the end, all these misguided women recreate is male, which has nothing whatsoever to do with Butch women. There is only one way to create Butch, and that is within a woman's womb, by the miracle of the female body itself. Butch is NOT male, Butch is NOT male mimicry, Butch is not masculine or any form of masculinity and Butch is NOT freak regardless of who and how she's often portrayed.

Butch is female/feminine, beginning, middle and end.

  1. I agree. Butches are a natural expression, feral, unforced with no additives required.

I briefly scanned the linked article, and it looks as if the author tries to take butches and fit them into some kind of new age queer culture/kink culture as if butches never existed. I don't like the term "masculine women", and butches are not caricatures of men.

    Well said...

  3. The title of the article is "9 Stunning Photos of 'Butches' That Shatter Society's Stereotypes About Masculinity"

Butches are not masculine. Butches are strong, independent women who bravely refuse to follow society's rules that tell women how they are supposed to act, dress, walk, and think.

  4. Those photos are stunning alright, stunningly awful, a real freak show.

I'm a butch and I'm CUTE, not gross and ugly like those pictures.

  5. Can I see some pictures of what Butch is, please? I'm not sure and I am curious...

  6. So if a woman doesn't shave all her body hair off, she cannot be a butch woman and is just a man. WOW! Order me some testosterone, I am transitioning today, can't wait for the beard development, because I don't shave my body hair either. Thanks for clearing this up, its nice to be told you are not a woman because of body hair. Men say the same thing about women to, judge them on only appearce, nothing else, glad you agree with all the misogynist pig men.

  7. Synthetic testosterone induced excessive body hair shaven or unshaven IS NOT BUTCH. That simplify it for ya?

  8. I find its interesting that you are saying natural female body hair unshaven is unnatural and must be shaven or it makes a butch woman a man. It does sounds like misogynistic old men judging a woman's appearance and fuck ability "Hey, that looks like a man. Would never tap that ass" I also wear men's clothes, I don't like feminine fluff. So I am changing my pronouns in honor of you. Just call me Sir and Mr. from now on. And they wonder why there is so many butches transitioning. I shake me head and roll my eyes on this ridicules butch shaming blog.

  9. Shaming girls and women over body hair has side effects. WARNING this article has a video that shows Labioplasty, where they cut away part of the labia to make it look good to partners. This surgery has increased since the demand for hairless vulva. Body shaming is not good, not good at all, no matter the part you are shaming. http://topdocumentaryfilms.com/perfect-vagina/

  10. My point exactly!

Medically altering bodies to remove misogynistically internalise female shame is WRONG!

Now back to the topic at hand, true Butch can only be born of woman, NOT recreated by medical means or ANY other.

Any other red herring comments after this Will be removed.

  11. I agree so much with your opinion and knowledge Dirt. I'll be 52 tomorrow and what i suspected a few years ago,,,is now what i am reading on your blog. i have rejected myself as a women. THrough the years of recovering from alcohol,,(some drugs) my sexuality and preference would be addressed. I had some counselors just simplify it and say "hey your bi-sexual,you like two flavors of ice cream" But really why did i still not seem it was just that simple. I never had a counselor address my gender ,, . Your so right on about this whole gender dysphoria and accepting ourselves as women. I have alot to say that supports my you ,, but i let it or the next blog,, thanks Dirt.

  12. I'm wondrin if women who do have a hard time accepting that they are woman find it hard to identify as lesbian,, as that would require them to acknowledge they are actually female?

    ReplyDelete
  13. @Anon 1:41 PM--Yes, that is actually something that happens. I am a female--this is a biological fact that I acknowledge--but I don't like calling myself a woman, or a girl, or a lady. I am sexually attracted to females but I find it more comfortable to think of myself as a "straight man" than a "lesbian."
I know this is all a crock though. That's why I follow and agree with this blog, I need some time to heal and learn to accept myself. In the meantime, I prefer not to identify as anything but female (the scientific term that I am comfortable with).

    ReplyDelete
  14. Yes,, that's what i think i've been doing unconsciously is identify as a straight man rather anything to do with female, "lesbian". But also knowing that any woman that I may be attracted to is attracted to a man and not a woman, so i've never pursued that type of relationship with a straight woman. This blog is giving me new insights and I am able to express in an anonymous way what the fuck is really going on with me. GEezze. Thanks Dirt. When i get some cash flow ,, wouldn't mind supporting your cause.

  15. Uh Why can't butch women be masculine? That makes no damned sense. Of of course butch women are masculine. Masculine IS NOT male or a caricature of men.

    1. I have used the word masculine in discussion of Butch, but when I have male doesnt cross my mind.
In Butch context it is more competent anima, surviving attempts of suppression and thriving without validation.

  16. Wow. I think there is no greater mystery than what Dirt thinks Butch looks like. But anyways I think I am starting to understand what Dirt is saying. I think you mean Butch is not simply a set of stereotypes or obvious rejections of feminity. But Dirt, I'm curious. What do you define butch as to an outsider? IT does appear that butch means a natural inclination to the masculine without rejection of one's biology. Butches ARE masculine. If a butch was not masculine than she would simply be a normal woman or even a femme. Are you trying to remove any male descriptions to butch such as the word masculine. Is that what you intend to do? Because masculine is just a word to describe a set of behaviors, mannerisms, preferences and so and so. They are stereotypes, I agree with that but nevertheless it is accurate in describing butches.

  17. Men and male characteristics are irrevelant to the existance of Butches, and the observable traits of Butch Lesbians.

There is also no interior checklist of mindset or sensibilites, scaled for comparison. No interest.

A Butch is her own phenotype. Crude analogies to maleness are a product of the tendency simplify human beings into versions recognizable to the standard paradigm.

The Butch lesbian is confounding to outsiders. Even so, the fragile find us trustworthy.

  19. Sometimes I wonder if FtMs are just would-be Butches, who arent very bright.

Some of the most vocal and self promoting trans ftm activists seem obtuse and childishly impulsive,

And I am not referring to the very young, who are in a stage of life where its completely forgivable, even expected, but individuals who are self appointed badasses that would objectively qualify as buffoons, demanding to be heard "loud and clear" but come off as one pontificating ominously to a mailbox, or a shape of air.

I notice they dont post their contentions on this blog, even though they are all over the internet walkin around in their underwear or giving out binders n' advice.

  20. I'd love to see a post in contrast to this one, celebrating butches in all their beauty. Something that lifts females up for existing as they are, instead of tearing down the ones who try to run from their natural selves.

  21. Only Dirt can approve you as butch. You have to send your picture to her. The criteria are a mystery, as are the criteria for all useless clubs and categories not worth being in. Who cares? No one. Anyone striving to be butch or to look butch or to be accepted as a butch is a complete boob. Get a life-all of you.

    ReplyDelete
  22. @1:41 We dont strive. We just are.

You are confusing us with selfie addicted Alex in Wonderlanders who cant answer the front door for the fed ex before putting a binder on.

Go measure your clit. Be sure to use the centimeter side, "bro".

  23. A couple months ago I saw a different photoset depicting "Butch" by Meg Allen (http://megallenstudio.com/butch/). I don't necessarily agree with everything she says in her description, but I do think that her portraits are a much, much better portrayal of what Butch is. Cheers.

  24. At least she's not grapping pictures put on social networks by teenagers and early twenty-somethings.

  25. Ah Randy.. you started off so elegant.. nice how you can post your full name and pretty thumbnail pic, cause you wont get death threats, and after all, you are so understanding and well versed in all things Lesbianic.

But youve lifted your leg in the living room now, havent you?

    I knew you would.

    The predictability is hilarious.

  26. "But youve lifted your leg in the living room now, havent you?"

I have no idea what you mean.

I am embarrassed by my spelling mistake. I meant to write something different: "At least she's not grabbing pictures put on social networks by teenagers and early twenty-somethings."
