FTM Bottom Surgery: Radial Forearm Flap

Trans females in previous decades, in the majority, were very vocal about what made them men. Specifically they claimed bottom surgery as its called, meaning a series of surgeries  barbarities performed on healthy limbs/bodies/sexual organs of trans females to create a skin pole of sorts which to urinate from or penetrate a vagina/anus, weren't necessary for them to be men. Bottom surgery was rare as it was expensive and dangerous/horrifically crude in its appearance.

Today's trans females arent so satisfied with testosterone injections/double mastectomies. Trans Trending females (trans females under age 25) today are seeking bottom surgery in higher and higher numbers, especially in countries where these surgeries are now paid for with tax payer dollars. I suspect the larger number of trans females seeking bottom surgery has as much to do with their young immature/insecure ages as it does the commodification of transition itself by media/medical professionals.

There are several different popular bottom surgeries, I will go through each in individual posts beginning with the Radial Forearm Flap.

Keep in mind, ALL information, including photo's are from medical professionals advocating/promoting/posting best POSSIBLE outcomes for this particular bottom surgery.

The reality of the Radial Forearm Flap? One healthy forearm is sacrificed (permanently disfigured) for its skin/veins/nerves to wrap around a cylindrical tube lined with another tube connecting to the urethra and sewn over the living clitoris, in effect, burying the clitoris beneath. Even the best outcomes are fraught with urinary complications of which there are NO long term studies. Therefore even as these complications are treated in various short term stages, no one know how aging might effect urination later on. The forearm dildo even in the short term, shrinks in size, given the lack of long term studies medical professionals do not know what amount of shrinkage might occur over the lifetime of the patient or how that shrinkage will affect necessary use.

The forearm dildo has three prime objectives; to pass as a penis in appearance, pissing performance and sexual (intercourse) performance. Clearly from the pictures available on the website I used and various others, the first objective is a complete failure. The forearm dildo looks nothing like a penis, and the labia majora filled with potentially cancer causing/immune related tissue disorder balls appear equally strange looking. Urinating, whether sitting or standing using the forearm dildo holds many complications in the short term and unknowable complications with aging. Using the forearm dildo for sexual intercourse:
Even masturbating to the point of orgasm is something each trans female patient has to learn by manipulating the forearm dildo to stimulate her clitoris suffocating beneath. With the forearm dildo ALL direct sexual contact is no longer possible. This surgery is nothing short of barbaric and reminiscent of the most gruesome days of early medicine.

  1. Agghh that is horrifying. Can you imagine waking up one day w your arm all mangled and your privates all sown up w your fucking dead arm surgically attached?! And the numerous complications, im sure, that could potentially ensue from such a "surgery"?! God im sure so many so fiercely regret it once it has been completed... And by then it's too fucking late for them. How awful.

  2. People will go to drastic measures when they don't identify with their parts. And that is their right as human beings to be comfortable in their own bodies.

Part of the reason bottom surgery is so slow to develop effectively for transmen is because of the economic impact of being born female. Those born male, identifying as female have far surpassed the medical technologies in regards to bottom surgery, in part because being born male often comes with certain economic benefits.

Now here's the super cool part. Stem cell research is being done with a focus on helping men who were injured, less than "blessed", and transmen to end up with the "bottom" halves they so desire in a safer and more effective surgical solution. Check out how fucking awesome the potential is!

So the bullshit claims of "mutilation" aren't gonna hold much water and this whole pushing ideas on other folks about who and how they should be with pseudoscience is gonna get a lot harder to defend. Separatists' days are numbered.

  3. Have you researched into the other surgery option - metoidioplasty? This is a much more natural surgery and creates a small penis with what is already down below. Results look great - albeit small - and retains full sensation.

Anorexic women starve themselves too. Some people with body dysmorphic disorder, a psychological disorder, have been known to amputate a health limb.

There is an enormous difference between males with an injury to part of their male reproductive system and biological females who are born with a female reproductive system. The latter will never be male.

(1.) First of all, stem cell research is still in its infancy. (2.) Second, it would have to pass an ethics board. I can see possibly using stem cells for important things like hearts, but using stem cells in some ghoulish experiment to grow a "penis" in a lab to be put on a biological female is probably dead last on any reputable scientists wish list.

If it were possible, how are they going to create a whole male reproductive system using stem cells? In the actual male reproductive system, everything is connected and tied together.

    External

    Penis
    Scrotum
    Testicles
    Epididymis

    Internal

    Vas deferens
    Ejaculatory ducts
    Urethra
    Seminal vesicles
    Prostate gland
    Bulbourethral glands

What is the purpose of attaching a "penis" on a biological female?

As to the results look great, everyone is entitled to his or her own opinion. All the photos to me look like an infant boy's penis.

A surgically altered clitoris is still a surgically altered clitoris.

As to sensation, any time a surgeon takes a scalpel to the genitals, it's impossible to completely rule out some loss of sensation.

I have a great idea! Women don't need to mutilate their genitals because they will NEVER have a a fully functioning male reproductive system.

  7. "So the bullshit claims of "mutilation" aren't gonna hold much water "

Tell this to Nancy/Nathan Verhelst who felt so depressed after botched sex reassignment surgery that she begged a doctor to euthanize her.

The thing about SRS is this. If you are wrong about it, or if it is botched, it sure as heck is mutilation.

I didn't even get into genetics....

  9. "[Dr. Anthony Atala] has already grown bladders using a patient's own cells, and he's made penises that rabbits were able to put to their proper use, fathering litters of new little bunnies."

    Fully functioning.

So now who someone is is defined by their genetics? Be careful about the road you want to argue with that one. Bigots like to argue "choice" in sexuality because there's not a "queer gene".

Where did the sperm come from to "father litters of new little bunnies"? It sure as heck didn't come from a female bunny.

Stem cell research is still in its infancy, and NO NEW TECHNOLOGY ISN'T WITHOUT RISKS.

    Please answer the question.

If it were possible, how are they going to create a whole male reproductive system using stem cells?

There is an enormous difference between using stem cells to replace a damaged penis on a biological male, and using stem cells to create a "penis" that might be sewn onto the female pubic area.

How could a penis "fully function" without the rest of the male reproductive system? Are males born with just a penis, or is everything connected.

  11. Man, this is a major reading comprehension fail. Lots of the things you underline are taken out of context, like the "no good results" line- that means no good results in attempts to use cartilage, but you've implied it's for the surgery itself! This makes you look pretty stupid. If you honestly are this unnerved and upset by this, why not read some of the books published by trans men? Most (I think around 3 in 4) are completely happy with their results. You also ignored the fact that all the patients the patients had an easier time reaching orgasm and 80% of them reported improved sexual satisfaction. Also, it says that "ultimately, all the patients were able to void through the newly reconstructed penis."

Lots of your "risks" are sections highlighted from the best to worst case scenario options- you can die from a tonsillectomy or a wisdom tooth removal, too! The serious complication rate was seven to twelve percent.

You seem pressed and picky about stuff, but you should go back to English 101 and learn to re-read research papers!

  13. Maybe as a butch lesbian you don't get it. You're not trans.

You don't want others telling you what to do with your life/body. Stop trying to say what anyone else should do.

  14. Ah yes, of course the comments section would be filled with the typical individualism that is so emblematic of Western culture; "live and let live!".

Yes, "live and let live" people who are going on hopeless endeavors to "become" the opposite sex, a journey that will never conclude and which will, at the end of the day, always cause them anguish.

These people need psychiatric care and not surgical intervention, the same way we treat body integrity identity disorder with therapy.

  15. I'm so tired of saying this, but apparently it needs to be said again and again and again: Homo Sapiens, like all mammals, is a sexually dimorphic species: the sex of human beings, or of any other mammal, cannot be changed.
Gender, on the other hand, is a collection of behaviors sociologically associated with one or other sex. We can accept or reject any of the behaviors conventionally assigned to our sex. Having our cock chopped off or our vagina plugged up is unlikely to help us to do this.

Please, what part of that do so-called "transsexuals" not understand?
