When I was a kid, the current trend among teens and young adults was the punk look. Extra piercings, pink or purple hair, safety pins in torn tees, ripped jeans etc. In my teen years, it was New Wave. A cross between punk and goth I suppose. I recall my cousin Tommy and I cutting our hair so that we both had "tails" then. Thats about as trendy as I got, I blame the Til Tuesday video!  All generations have had trends that their youth have rebelliously gone through in efforts to reach a healthy adulthood. But regardless of the trend, once the rebellion was over and maturity began setting in, the hair dye grew out, the piercings were removed and a less malcontented clothing donned.

In adulthood we look back on that surface rebellion and smile or laugh at our silliness. We realize as adults true rebellion, high rebellion, has nothing to do with what we look like, or how we want the world to visually perceive us, in fact little to do with ourselves. High rebellion is working to change long established orders, systems, laws etc. Leaving a mark on the world that wasnt there before we got here.

What marks are our Trans Trenders leaving besides the mutilated marks where beautiful breast once had been? Long unknown effects of testosterone poisoning, a surgically mangled body, and a drug altered brain. These arent things that one is going to outgrow and mature past, they are things that kill. That instead of helping to reach within and find the true self, murders that self before it even has the chance to take its first real breath.

This Trans Trend is teaching our female youth that as young women, their core female self isnt worth discovering and that that first breath uttered from the find, isnt worth the effort. And with no parental society or medical community hindering their self hatred, they're being allowed to murder that self right out from underneath themselves.

NO transition is justifiable. Not one. But transitioning teens and even children not old enough for school is something so reprehensible that I dont believe the likes of Harry Benjamin or John Money could have imagined.

  1. "their core female self isnt worth discovering"

There is no such thing as a core female self in a transman.

  2. I agree. But in trans females, which I'm writing about, there most certainly is.

  3. I never looked at it as a trend, but now you mention it... it does look like a trend.
I was New Age too in my youth, it was so cool to stand out in the crowd.
I worry about the amount of FTM's these days. It's booming and I can't believe that so many women suffer from gender dysphoria.
Gender dysphoria is hard to deal with and adjusting the body has to be done.

I doubt most FTM's I see. I used to repect them but since there are so many of them nowadays, I can hardly believe they all suffer from gender dysphoria.

Dirt worries too, she wants to save innocent youth from making steps that can't be reversed. I understand her and applaud her.
Somebody has to say what she says.
It's always good to hear another voice. Listen to her instead of bashing her.

  6. How can you be so sure that you are right and all transgenders are wrong? That the medical comunity is wrong?

You have no credentials to make these assertations and no right to try to practice psychiatry when you are not qualified.

    ReplyDelete
  7. You mean the "credentials" that confined females into mental asylums for rejecting forced marriages? Or the "credentials" that claimed females who dared to desire a life outside the "common areas of the sitting room" as mentally ill? Or the "credentials" that said females had "penis envy" whenever we tried living as human beings rather than "women"? Or how about the "credentials" that lobotomized tens of thousands of females who did anything, anything that was deemed outside the Gender Straight Jacket? Or maybe the "credentials" that tried electrocuting females back into their proper place whenever we got out of line? Or the "credentials" that medically raped lesbians in order to "cure" us of our lesbianism? Or the "credentials" that forced women to "rest" whenever we became depressed over our horrifically circumscribed lives? Or the "credentials" that blame females for starving ourselves to death, rather than holding a misogynistic society accountable? A misogynistic society that accounts for the myriad of "disorders" females develop every day.

If those are the "credentials" to whom you're referring, then no anon I have none. And if there happens to a god or gods, I thank each of them every bloody day of my life that I do not!

  8. Any psychiatrist or physician who participates in the travesty of 'gender transition' will eventually be sued for malpractice and lose their license.
In the coming years the public will look back at this ridiculous movement and chalk it up to just another human rights abuse that psychiatry had conjured up in order to profit.
Just as lobotomies, ice water baths, shock treatments and zombie drugs now embarass the profession this type of 'treatment' will be viewed as barbaric as well.
Yes, girls and women have issues with their bodies--it's all part of living in an appearance-driven society. All girls and women suffer from it on some level, but to contort these insecurities into a pathological disease is absolute insanity!
Again, psychiatry behaves like Nazi Germany.

    ReplyDelete
  9. "You have no credentials to make these assertations and no right to try to practice psychiatry when you are not qualified."

Anyone who is naive enough to believe that doctors, especially psychiatrists have all the answers is simply ignorant of history. Early psychiatric hospitals were ghoulish prisons with horrendous living conditions.

    http://smashingtops.com/weird/10-of-the-worst-psychiatric-treatments-in-history/

Ten Worst Psychiatric Treatments in History

(1.) Removing body organs to treat mental illnesses

Dr. Henry Cotton was a psychiatrist who was most probably even more lunatic than his patients. According to his belief, mental disorders were actually caused by infections. Hence, the cure was simply removing the infected part of the body. In his horror psychiatric hospital, he tortured this way countless patients, at the beginning of the 20th century. He removed the patient’s teeth, one by one, then, since the patient’s mental problem was still present (doh) he did not mind sacrificing different organs of the poor guy. Only 50 % of the sick survived this method of treatment.

    (2.) Trepanation

Trepanation is as old as the human being. Even the primitive humans used it as a method of curing anything related to the head, from headaches to wounds. It implied creating a whole in a man’s skull in order to try to discover what was wrong with him. Of course, the so called surgery was many times deadly. It was also practiced in the 17th century in Europe.

    (3.) Lobotomy

This is one of the worst medical procedures ever invented and stands on the same place as the two above, as what concerns awfulness. Edgar Moniz came to the dumb conclusion that mental problems have their source in the frontal lobe. Thus, he woke up one day and decided to try that on his violent patients. His theory was that the procedure will only cure the disorder, leaving the patients calm and ready to take their lives back. Unfortunately, he was terribly wrong as the patients remained incapacitated for life. Even more tragic, this “side effect” was only discover later on, when numerous patients had already received this treatment, which was really successful and found many followers for a while.

    (4.)Electro Shock Treatment

One of the worst psychiatric treatments ever, the electroshock was first used as a treatment by an Italian doctor, one year before the beginning of World War I. The so -called patient (more of a victim actually) experienced up to 400 volts passing through his brain and could develop amnesia, as well as permanent damage of the brain. However, up to this day, there are psychiatrists who refuse to admit these side-effects and electroshock is still used as treatment, with the consent of the patient or of an appointed tutor.

    (5.)The Metrazol treatment

Another doctor who tried to achieve glory by inventing a revolutionary treatment for mental disorders was the Hungarian psychiatrist Ladislas von Meduna. His attempt was that of calming schizophrenics by using some substances that would cause them seizures. After experiencing with several rather weird ones, he finally stopped at Metrazol. Meduna’s treatment was controversial in the medical world and fortunately, was not used for long.

Ten Worst Psychiatric Treatments in History Continued

(6.)Induced Coma (coma works for just about anything!)

How about “coma” as a therapy? Well, it does help the patient calm down…right? This is what Doctor Manfred Sekel must have thought when he first tested this therapy on a patient who was drug addict. He gave the woman a huge dose of insulin, which naturally, caused her to enter coma. When she woke up, she declared herself miraculously cured, which brought the crazy doctor fame and respect. For a while, the treatment was applied on numerous mentally ill patients, but it was stopped when it was revealed that some of these people had the strange tendency of dying because of the insulin overdose. Really, now, who would have thought that coma could be so dangerous?! Geez

(7.)Hydroteraphy (bring out the water hose)

A nice, warm, bath seems a good idea, but not the kind of bath these guys thought about. Their so-called baths seemed more like torture sessions in a prisoner’s camp. Doctors believed that high pressure showers or baths that would last for days could have a great effect on the lethargic or on the agressive patients.

(8.) Rotational Therapy (spin them around till they are dizzy)

This therapy tried to cure patients by spinning them around. While it was not dangerous for the patient , it was not helpful either so the treatment was soon forgotten. What is still worth mentioning is that it was first developed by Charles Darwin’s grandfather.

(9.)Treatment for Histeria (those histerical women, or the moving uterus)

Since ancient times hysteria was associated with women. While Hippocrates believed that it was caused by a “moving uterus” that could obstruct the respiratory system, and recommended marriage and children as a way of making the uterus return to its place, 20th century therapy was even worse, as it proposed oophorectomy (the removal of the ovaries) in order to treat this mental disorder. Removal of ovaries is the feminine equivalent for castration and that should say it all.

(10.) "Mesmerising" Treatment (it's the moon's gravity making you weird)

Even though crazy, the treatment of Frantz Mesmer was at least harmless. He believed that some magnets placed on the body would counter the effects of the Moon’s gravity on the human body, which was to blame for mental illnesses. He had a complicated theory to explain all this madness, but the point is that he was believed by many people, who later declared themselves cured and happy about it. The treatment was finally discredited, but Mesmer became famous in another way, meaning, as the father of psychology, because he used the placebo effect in his treatments, though I don’t believe that he was aware of it.

  12. I would add to the last comment, it isnt just early mental wards/hospitals that were atrocious. Those same wards/hospitals are equally horrific today. The only difference being, instead of lobotomizing patients to keep them in check, today with drug advancements (which was why Freeman's "icepick" lobotomies were retired) patients are drugged into silence/obedience.

  14. The key thing is to try and stop some women mutilating themselves. You are right Dirt, we all do things in our youth that we regret or think are ridiculous when we are older. But most of these have no long term damage. Mutilating your body will impact on you for the rest of your life.

    ReplyDelete
  15. And anon 2.57pm - Trans is not real, it is a fantasy. A woman can not become a man. You will never have the physical body of a man, you can never change your chromosomes, you can never be socialised into being a male from babyhood. The most you can ever do is "pass". And the word "passing" used by many Trans people says it all i.e. you might be able to fool people into thinking you are a man. But you won't be - you will always be a woman.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Actually NJD, within the last decade we've seen drastic changes with regard to homosexual transitioners. As gay men have become much more visible and much more acceptable, very few gay men are transitioning.

With an obvious clear resurgence of feminism amid this hyper femininity phase and tightening of the GSJ, it is only a matter of time before before we see similar changes with lesbians who develop or buy into this disorder.

The important thing is working to minimize the extreme misogyny plaguing females and the female condition. As we do, everything else will fall into place.

It's not a fantasy for everyone.

These videos that dirt links to every week, they truly are trenders in every sense of the word, and hopefully they can be saved before they irreversibly damage themselves and their lives.

True transsexuals might be few and far between, but it's not fantasy -- it's survival on a very base level. These girls only make it harder for those that really need to pursue this last-resort treatment no matter their true sex.

  18. "You opinonated "know-nothings" have absolutely ZERO effect on the trans population. You aint gonna change nothing."

Well thats not true, I am just one person but finding info like this DID change me. As did the people who tirelessly reminded me what was real and what wasn't when I was paranoid and psychotic.

If you're thinking of saying 'oh well you weren't a real trans' - yup, the cult said the same AFTER I left. But trust me when I was a member of the community I wasn't on the fringes. I was a fairly well known name and regarded to be a 'true' trans *because* I had been in A+E for trying to cut demons out my body with a breadknife - not in spite of it. The cult will try to claim whatever mentally ill symptoms you have are signs of 'real' transgenderism as long as you're singing off the same hymn sheet. If you start to ask questions they kick you to the kerb. When I first approached trans-sceptics I was an absolute ass to them but they treated me with kindness and humanity even so. That speaks volumes.

  22. How com most trenders are FTM's and not MTF's? If it's true gender dysphora, then why does it affect women many more times then men?
There must be something in manhood that's very attractive.

Sign of the times, every time had it's things going on. Gender dysphora got finally excepted and I applaud that. But lately it seems that it's not done to point out that the FTM boom is hard to believe.

Man, it's like young FTM's grow on trees these days. It makes me worry about these youngsters.

    ReplyDelete
  23. There are far more MTF than FTM. You only focus on the FTM and thus see alot of them. Also, FTM transition in thier youth and this new generation is very pluged in. The MTF population is primarily middle age and not as tech savvy and pluged in as the youthful FTM.

This is not the only culture with 'trans' people. Look to the native populations in Somoa, Indonesia and the Pacific rim nations.
Now consider India. The Hijra have been using castration (which is one of the sex change surgeries) for thousands of years.

If there is indeed a social infection amongst our teen age lesbians that is driving many to transition then like any other disease it must run its course. Our culture is as you have said many times built on patriarchy. As such we do not even have the language to properly identify or treat our social ills when it comes to gender politics.
We can not even know if this trans thing is real until we are able to divorce ourselves and language from patriarchy.

Too many men to repair the damage they have done. Breeder women need to wake up and abort 90% of their male fetus. Then feminist women can start the work of rebuilding and repairing our society. Only once we start to see a healthy society will we be able to determine if this trans thing is a social infection or indeed something real.

    Sincerly,
    Montolia De`Nuet

    1. I contend that there is no such thing as the heart soul or mind of a 'man' since I'm not a big believer in 'gendering' thoughts or behaviors (well your heart and brain are and will ever remain the heart and brain of a woman biologically, and your 'dick' is actually most likely a swollen clitoris; the 'soul-' well that's a religious concept and Transism has indeed become a religion).

  25. "Also, I think transguys are fully aware that we will never be biologically male. It gets tiring hearing that every 5 minutes from you feminists, like it's your only argument."

I'm not sure why 'men can't be women and women can't be men' isn't enough of an argument.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I'm really confused as to what you consider to be feminism. The definition I always heard was that feminism means working towards a society where women are free to make the life choices they want, without being treated differently from a man who makes those same choices, and vice versa. In other words, if women want to be CEOs, not only should they be CEOs, but they should be paid the same as male CEOs. And if men want to stay home and raise children, they should be able to do that without having to defend their decision.
Feminism is about equality, not women are better. If we use the same tactics against men that they use against us, how does that make us better? Women and men are equal - not alike, but equal.
Feminism is also about identifying with those who have been unfairly targeted as we have been, like homosexuals, transgendered, poor people, etc. You can scream at the top of your lungs that there is no such thing as a trans, just as many Evangels will scream that there is no such thing as a homosexual, but that doesn't make you right. It just makes it hard for you hear other voices.

    ReplyDelete
  27. You're describing "fun feminism". Feminism is working to dismantle the misogynistic patriarchal structures that create inequality. It is these narrow structures that lay the ground for the development of this disorder.

  28. "I'm not sure why 'men can't be women and women can't be men' isn't enough of an argument."

Because it's not an argument. Just like christians that say you can't be gay, because it's in the bible.

You really do have a narrow view of the world don't you?

    ReplyDelete
  29. No, it's not the same as being gay. Belief in reality is quite unlike believing in what the 'Bible' says. For me, opposing trans theory has very little to do with feminism. I consider the idea that one can or needs to 'change gender' to be an extremely narrow world-view.

    ReplyDelete
  30. @ e
And if I choose to oppose the feminism theory? The theory that women actually think they're still not equal. That wishing to to be a different gender to what you were born has anything to do female shame?

Sure, there probably is women out there that want to transition because they're ashamed of their bodies, but that margin is incredibly small.

I also dislike this term "male medical machine", and the bitching about all the risks associated (short and long term) with taking T. We know. Most of us research the stuff for years before actually going on hormones (I know I did).

Also, I never said it's the same as being gay. What poor reading skills you have. Gay is the gender you're attracted to, Trans is the gender you feel inside. Not too hard of a concept, no?

What I was basically saying, is that the way the women on this page protest transmen, is eerily similar to the nonsensical hatred and bigotry spewed by the members of Westboro Baptist Church.

"sure some of these young folks are claiming to be trans when they are not, just like some young folks that claim there gay and they aren't. Hopefully the ones that aren't will figure that out b4they have surgery"

Well, at least this person had the courage to speak the truth. He or she has no problem admitting that "some young kids who claim they are trans really aren't." Dirt and others have been saying this for years. Now, this is where is gets depressing and most disturbing. He or she goes on to say, "Hopefully the one that aren't will figure it out before surgery." What happens if they don't have a soul searching assessment of how they really are, or what they really want? These young women will be have both their healthy breast removed from their bodies. They will start taking testosterone which can impact their health. They will surgically mutilate their female bodies.

The simply truth is this. Trans activists can never say with certainty that no one ever lives to regret all the surgery and hormones. At least this poster had the courage to speak the truth.

The scars left by the surgery will always remain.

But that dosent negate the reality that trans people are legitimate and are here to stay.”

TRANS ACTIVISTS ADMIT, “SURE SOME OF THESE YOUNG FOLKS ARE CLAIMING TO BE TRANS WHEN THEY ARE NOT.”

    (1.) Question:

Hasn’t Dirt and many others been saying this for years? Moreover, isn’t it logical and reasonable to assume that many of the young women claiming to be trans really have no idea who they are, or what they want. Perhaps some do and are trans, but many are not. Unlike gay men and lesbians, FTM requires the removal of both healthy breasts, and a life time commitment to testosterone. Occasionally, healthy female genitals are surgically altered. In a real sense, “transitioning” is never complete because cross gender hormones have to be taken for life. These are people who are wedded to medicine and the health care system for life. Of course, nothing ever goes wrong in surgery, and all prescription drugs never cause side effects.

    (2.) Question:

How many times do adolescents and young women in their early twenties change their minds?

FINALLY, TRANS ACTIVISTS COME RIGHT OUT AND ADMIT THE TRUTH - SOME SURGERY COULD BE UNNECESSARY

The following statement is both unimaginably horrific and completely candid and straight forward at the same time. I do have to admit that the matter of fact statement took me by surprise. The cavalier, casual belief that unnecessary surgery might be occurring, but is nothing to concern ourselves with simply stuns me. To me, this is part and parcel of the overall attitude that trans activists have towards women. Upon careful scrutiny, these are many of the same misogynistic attitudes that men and society in general have towards women. That is, women must adhere to a certain standard of beauty. In a sexist society, the incredible beauty and complexity of the female body, mind, and spirit is something that is inherently flawed. It needs to be surgically or chemically altered to fit a certain form or appearance that patriarchy sets. This is what trans activists admit. They admit that some people really aren’t trans and might be confused. Then, they casually say, “hopefully they ones that aren’t will figure that out before surgery.”

This statement shows how much trans activists really cherish, respect, validate, and honor the female of the species.

“Hopefully the ones that aren’t will figure that out B4 they have surgery”

    (3.) Question:

What happens if this never occurs, or never occurs without a great deal of deep, personal soul searching? Wouldn’t this constitute the mutilation of the healthy female body? It certainly seems this way to me.

    ReplyDelete
  35. (4.) Question:

How many times are the trans activists willing to casually sit by and watch as young women are surgically mutilated?

    (5.) Question:

Is the mutilation of the female body acceptable? Of course, the mutilation of the female body in one form or another has recurred throughout history. This does not mean, however, that we must accept it.

    (6.) Question:

As to FTM, how is it possible to clearly distinguish between “gender dysphoria” and internalized feelings of misogyny that is caused by the constant and unrelenting devaluing of women in most cultures?

For example, some transmen have said part of the reason they transition is because they want the power and status of being seen as male. Is this “gender dysphoria”, or a way to escape being a female in a sexist society that constantly devalues, marginalizes, sexual assaults, and demeans women. One would have to be completely naïve to not realize that young women pick up these subtle and not so subtle messages of inferiority from the time they are born. Women are constantly told that their bodies are inherently flawed in one way or another.

    (7.) Question:

How can any young woman be completely separated from the culture in which she is raised and nurtured? Can’t cultural, peer, and family pressures shape the decision to “transition”? So, how can we logically claim that “gender dysphoria” is immutable?

    ReplyDelete

As a feminist who has always been pro-choice, a rabid Bush hater, and opposed to the evangelical, religious right, I’m deeply insulted that anyone would even tray to compare what is going on in this blog with Evangelicals. People like me would probably be strung up by the religious right.

Since when is the mutilation of the female body something new or revolutionary? From Chinese foot binding, to breast ironing, to Victorian corsets, to female genital mutilation in some African countries, the mutilation of the female body continues decade after decade, and century after century. Some people choose not question some rather uncomfortable things because to do so requires staring straight into the face of what could be just another misogynistic mutilation of the female form. No one wants to say that this might be happening as we I type this post. I believe that there are a few women who really are “gender dysphoric” to the point of it being totally debilitating as if their body is completely foreign to them. Perhaps a few could benefit from transitioning. However, in my opinion, at least 90% of what I’ve observed is nothing but confused young women who have no idea who they are, or what they want. It’s a strange brew or mix of confusion, the pressure from trans activists, internalized misogyny, and a deep seated fear and loathing of lesbians.
Since this person seems to be a feminist, or claims to be a feminist, what does she or he think of this statement?

“I would rather my daughter grow up to be a transman and get the respect from being a man than be steered to be carpetmuncher who gets no respect.”

This was directed towards a butch lesbian. Doesn’t the sheer misogyny seep out of these words? Doesn’t it kind of smack the reader in the face? So, let’s talk about feminism. Let’s talk about the surgical and chemical erasing of the female form and identify.
By the way, never compare me to the Evangelical religious right. The church tortured witches in unspeakable ways, and burnt their bodies. While not as barbaric as the Inquisition, the trans activists seem to have no problem mutilating female bodies either.

Since we are on the subject of feminism, what have trans activists ever done for women? Where was the trans community when women were tenaciously fighting for voting rights, equal pay, and reproductive health care? Most of the major women’s rights legislation was enacted long before trans become so widespread and popular in the 1990s. When it comes to things that actually matter in the lives of women, trans have done little, if anything? Other than the puberty suppressing drugs, elective mastectomies in healthy young women, cross gender hormones, and trans BDSM porn, I can’t think of anything transgender has ever done for the vast majority of females on the planet. At the large annual Philadelphia Trans Health Center both plastic surgeons and people from the sex industry were hawking their wares. At this transgender health conference there were two workshops for trans in the sex industry. There was even a workshop for FTMs interested in the sex industry. Both the medical establishment and the sex industry support the transgender community.

    So, let’s talk about feminism.

It really has to be seen does it not? The sheer number of doctors at these gatherings hawking their extremely expensive wares to the gullible young women who think that all will be right if they have top surgery, and the foolish old men who prance round in pink delusionally thinking that they are going to magically become their favorite whack material fantasy girl if they have their dicks removed!

It is both sad and grotesque is it not? Not to mention rather questionable of the doctors morals as they look to the trans-epidemic as the lucrative means to their economic utopia! Why in California alone there are now more practicing surgeons doing these type operations and ONLY these type operations, than there were in the entire world thirty years ago! And why not? They all get cash on the barrel head and as long as there is a letter saying the person handing them their life savings is nutty as a fruit cake but can only be "cured" by their knife they are home free!

As you said... there are some for whom this is the answer but they are at best one in fifty of those presenting themselves to these mammon loving doctors, and I would wager far far less than that! Certainly there are not enough of them to keep more than a handful of doctors in business even part time!

  38. MKIA, you guesstimate that for 1 in 50 "transition" is a "cure". What would be your guestimation for how many that anorexia is the "cure"? And bulimia? And the medical removing of healthy limbs for those with BIID? And blacks who try bleaching their skin because they believe they should have been born white? A rough estimation will be fine. Just curious, as these too are social dis-eases.

  39. I have to agree with Dirt about many of the people she shows on this site. I've been debating about posting this for some time, but in light of something I recently found out, I have to say that I completely agree with Dirt about "trans" being a trend-in some cases.

Someone I know, who coincidentally, has had several conversations with Dirt on another website in the past (apropos of nothing really, just thought I'd mention it) when she identified as a lesbian, has recently announced that she is trans, & that she has an appt at a local LGBT clinic to begin hormones. Now, this person is not in the typical 15-21 age bracket. She is approaching middle age & is someone who has always tried to follow the trends that younger people are following, to the point where it often seems like she has no personality of her own so she has to duplicate others'. However, in the past, this person has stated that she had no desire to transition because she was perfectly happy with “what she was born with”. Now, after getting to know a couple of FTMs & joining a couple of online FTM groups, she has decided that she wants to transition. She justifies it by saying that she has always been a tomboy, though she occasionally likes to wear makeup and dresses, which, if continued post-transition, could put her in a LOT of danger where she lives. She stands to lose a lot by transitioning. Many people in my community would say that I'm being transphobic for denying her reality as a trans person, & that's one of the reasons I'm posting this here. The fact is that I KNOW this particular person is just jumping on the trans bandwagon, & I'm not in a position where I can tell her that she's fooling herself into thinking she's trans, probably for attention-something she is addicted to.

If this person is allowed to begin HRT, there is definitely something wrong with the medical community and the systems set in place to determine whether or not someone is actually transgender, or is just some lemming who wants to jump off of the cliff because of some deluded idea that it's cool to transition.

The clinic that this person has an appt. at uses the "informed consent" model for their trans patients. This means, at this particular clinic at least, is that she will have a short appt with a licensed social worker who will ask a few questions, & then will make a recommendation to the clinic as to whether or not the patient should be allowed to transition. Then, if the patient is determined to be good to go for transition, they will be called in for blood to be drawn to determine their base testosterone levels, liver function, & some other things that tell the doctors whether or not the patient is healthy enough to go on testosterone. At that point, as long as the patient has no underlying health problems, they are called in to sign an Informed Consent form that typically explains what hormone replacement therapy is, states that the patient understands the potential health risks that go along with hormone therapy, lists the "risks vs benefits" of hormone therapy, & requires that the patient sign the form, thus giving their consent for a doctor to prescribe hormones.

After a brief consultation with a doctor, the patient is given the Informed Consent form to read over. The patient can ask the doctor any questions they may have, & is then expected to sign the form with either a yes or a no. Obviously, the answer is pretty much always going to be a yes.
After the signed form is given to the doctor, the doctor writes the prescription for hormones. At many clinics, the prescription is then faxed to a pharmacy that offers low-priced hormones and includes all the supplies needed to administer them. The patient can then call the pharmacy and make an over-the-phone payment to the pharmacy to have their hormones shipped to their home. After that call, the patient receives their hormones in roughly 3 days.

  40. (Contd.) The total time elapsed for someone to obtain hormones could be as little as a month. I've posted this to show just how easy it can be for anyone to begin transitioning. Now, some states, clinics, etc have stricter policies that make it more difficult to obtain hormones, but from what I've seen, most people don't have to jump through many hoops to get their prescription.

My point is that I think that's totally WRONG. Anyone who wants to transition should be made to go through extensive therapy, should have to live for an extended time as the gender they will transition to, should be very well informed about what will happen if they change their mind, and should be required to at least speak with a couple of people for whom transition has gone horribly wrong so that they can see the full picture of what they could turn into.

I am a member of many FTM groups, and every day, I come across people who have realized that transitioning isn't what they thought it was going to be. Some of these kids (well hell, they're not even all kids) have lost friends, family, jobs, their homes; some have been beaten, raped, humiliated; and some find that HRT didn't change their body the way they expected-they didn't do their 1st shot of testosterone and magically wake up the next morning a "full-blown man." I can't help but think that many of these things could be avoided if these people had been more educated about what can happen to transpeople. I can only believe that with more education that is geared more towards turning them off from the idea, these people would decide that no, maybe transition isn't for them after all.

That will not be the case for everyone. Some people would literally rather die than not transition. However, there ARE people out there who have decided that it's cool to transition, or that being female never really worked for them so let's try being a man for a change, or that they want to go on testosterone to increase their sex drive (yes, people actually do this).

I apologize for the length of this response, but I really wanted to let you know that there are people on the "other side of the fence" who actually agree, for the most part, with what Dirt is saying about transitioning being a trend for a lot of people. We may not always like the way she says it, but many of us would be lying if we said we didn't see any truth in what she's said. Dirt is villainized by a lot of members of my community for pointing out people who are transitioning who put their "journeys" on YouTube. Personally, I feel like most of the people who document their transition via video are just proving the point Dirt tries to make about it being a trend, and additionally, many are showing just how desperate they are for attention, desperate to BE NOTICED, desperate to be DIFFERENT. And if you look at them, you can see the desperation on their faces. I feel sorry for the people that Dirt shows here, not because they're being "terrorized" by Dirt (as many of them claim), but because most (if not all) of them haven't even given themselves time to fully develop physically OR mentally, let alone to have the slightest inclination of who they really are.

I'm sorry if I have offended anyone who reads this. That was not my intention. And Dirt, I really hope that you don't just delete this post, because I think it is important for people to know that even people who are actively transitioning agree that there is definitely a "trans trend," and that something needs to be done about it. Those who CAN be convinced not to transition need to be swayed from that path, because those people were never transgender to begin with. In my opinion, those are the ones that Dirt's posts can actually do something for.

  41. Until one injects testosterone, NO ONE is "trans" anything and even then their biology NEVER changes.

  42. If that's the case, where do I fit in? I was born with female body parts, but never really felt female. When I was 36, I had the opportunity to have a chromosome test done, and though I was born with no outer male characteristics, I have xy chromosomes.

Nobody but me ever thought I was anything but female.

Sometimes nature DOES get it wrong.

  43. What does female "feel" like?

  44. Well, for me, it felt like pain, wrongness, and suicidal depression.

Like my skin was some weird kind of drag suit that I could never take off.

  45. "What does female "feel" like?"

"Well, for me, it felt like pain, wrongness, and suicidal depression. Like my skin was some weird kind of drag suit that I could never take off."

So you did feel female but it was a negative feeling? Is that what you're saying?

I just want to share this cus it might be relevent. When I was a child I was ill and in chronic pain for months and in and out of hospital. Sometimes parts of my body felt partially numb, like I was wearing a rubber suit. I felt like my body was someone else's. I suppose it was my brain's way of dealing with the stress. The trouble is, it didn't stop as soon as I got well again. I would dissociate from time to time if I was just over tired or had a headache, I got these horrible sensory hallucinations which made me feel suicidal and I don't say that lightly, because I was only a kid and I loved life. Later on my growing breasts were painful and I couldn't make them belong with the rest of me; the places that didn't hurt. I still struggle with that now, even though I don't believe it makes me 'male inside' or whatever.

I'm just putting it out there that dissociation doesn't mean you're not female. If you're dissociative, the problem is inside your mind and it won't go away by interfering with your body. I have the scars to show for it (self harm over 10 years) and the worst thing is, where you lose sensation because of nerve damage, you literally have to live with numbness full time and it can trigger more dissociation.
