A Spot on Winterson Quote

Women still have little power in the decision-making processes of government and industry. And the culture is punishing women as never before. We have to be smart, pretty, sexy, good in the kitchen, good at the office, good with the kids. Good in bed. Good at handling men. It is impossible. Older women are written off and teenagers feel they have to be sexually available all of the time. Hence the line in my story: Fucking is the new frigid. There is so little in the culture that helps us to love well, either ourselves or our partners. Love is a casualty of the upgrade culture but women just don't have time anymore to be in charge of love and that is everybody's loss.

  1. One wonders, then, why you are cheating for a man so he can get a degree without making an effort. He can just pay a woman to do it for him, and not much at that.

  2. Sounds like you have some serious hatred towards men, perhaps you should look into that.

  3. No Dirt, actually it looks like anon 4:10 has some sound claims. Perhaps *you* should look into that!

Do you honestly think when he strikes it big in whatever field he goes into (due to male privilege) that he'll ever give you due credit?

Inspired, amazing journeys and easy to read for all levels of readers (unlike some of her later work).

  5. With all your railing against patriarchy I find your participation in academic dishonesty for the benefit of a man surprising. Heh. You sold out your own ideals for 200 bucks. Pathetic. I've lost a lot of respect for you.

  6. Dont cry anon, just because you wanted to believe I hate males and now you find I like/love them and all your little ideas about me just went out the window...lol

  8. As a lesbian, why would I? Or like male and female, you also have problems understanding what lesbians are?

  9. You're still a hypocrite Dirt. You're allowing a man to get his place knowing damn well he may never give you credit for it. F*cking own up to your own hypocrisy.

Would you do the same thing for a transman? I'd wager not...seeing as to you transmen are not female, nor are they women, so transmen can just go f*ck off, right?

As a true butch as you claim to be you would have told this man to go do his own damn homework and make it for himself without your help. Christ, if you needed some spare cash you could have started a paypal fund. But I guess not. Easier to sell out in a man's world, eh?

  10. If you're so offended and hate men so much, perhaps this blog isnt for you Anon.

And there is little I wouldnt do for those I care about, including taking an english course to help a full time dad of twins, who is also a full time worker and nursing student. I seriously doubt "the yellow wallpaper" is going to come up when he is a nurse...lol

  11. Actually Dirt, you're wrong yet again. I don't hate men. I'm a transmen. Just wanted to point out how you're a sell out. I don't care how many kids he's has. Single mothers have accomplished more with fewer resources.

Try again. Man hater? Me? According to you people like me are the embodiment of the non-existence of feminism. *largest eyeroll ever*

  12. And as a transman I'd tell someone male or female to do their own homework. I have to make my way in a prejudiced world and they should too. If they have taken on too much in life, perhaps they should cut back, yeah? But at least I have the willpower to tell someone "no." Enough is enough.

  13. Plenty of self hating females hate men, especially when they can never be men.

And again, there is little I wouldnt do for a loved one, what sex they are doesnt even enter into it.

I recently wrote several college paper's for a niece who was in hospital suffering from issues with Crohn's, guess I "sold out" again! Oh the guilt..lol

  14. Oh, just yesterday after finding out my 14 y/o nephew was having some mega issues the previous evening with his mother's b/f, I called his school and LIED to them by telling them his mother sent me a garbled message that he needed a ride home and I wanted to speak with him to confirm, just so I could talk to him and find out if he was okay and did want me to pick him up so he wouldnt have to go home. Which he did want and which I of course did.

OH NO! I helped a male, I'm going to burn in hell..lol

Family actually still has meaning where I'm from hotcakes.

  15. "Plenty of self-hating females hate men."

Alright....so one day we're just joining the sexist patriarchy and benefitting from it and the next day that's not possible because "plenty of self-hating females hate men."

Makes perfect sense. Gotcha. By the way, where are your statistics to back this up? In other words, your scholarly research on this? Cold hard data and analysis?

Face it. If I hated men, I wouldn't have spent my life LYING to myself considering myself a woman. I was simply pointing out how YOU come off as a man-hater reapeatedly (you treat transmen as less than human...something that the rest of conservative society has done to gays and lesbians for years), you rag on bisexuals thinking they need to make up their mind (when they DONT. It's definitely still a free country!) And therefore since YOU come off as a man-hater, I found it highly suprising you would participate in ACADEMIC DISHONESTY. Especially for a man, but it's just wrong in general.

I never said you were going to burn in hell. Ever. I'm an atheist, so please don't be putting religious jargon in my mouth. Believe it or not, not all transmen are religious like you'd like to think.

Family does mean something where I'm from too (by the way, thanks for calling me hotcakes....that actually made me smile, haha. I don't think I've ever been called that.) And I can understand why you'd help your family as I help mine too regardless of gender, but I think it's just the college course thing in general that has me miffed. Not because of some imaginary "hatred" I have of men (which is nonsense), but because all throughout middle and high school I was the A-student who everyone wanted to get help from. Eventually I got sick of it and learned to tell people no by the time I hit sophomore year of high school.

I want to sum this up by saying that I'm honestly sorry your family is going through such rough times. However, in the case of your niece specifically, I don't know how schools are like where you live, but here in CA at least she could have withdrawn with a catastrophic reason and then taken the semester off and resumed the following semester.

At least that's what I would do if I was terribly ill. I would not expect anyone else to do my work for me....

In regards to the nurse...again, here in California you HAVE to have a good GPA, do volunteer work, possibly have an internship, and be a well rounded person in general in order to even be considered for a nursing program. I still think he needs to cut back if he cannot juggle the demands of being a father, having a full time job, and being a student.

I learned a great deal from my 100 level English course and it provided a solid foundation for the rest of my coursework. I'm not sure what college english course it is for him, but HE is the one who will need to communicate effectively in his field and will need eventually write a senior thesis and not sound inept while doing so. Not you.

Just my perspective. And again I'm sorry that you and your family have been going through so much. =/

Grow up crybaby! You just can't deal with critique.

  17. Interesting to see this quote on your blog, considering Winterson's (arguably) best written work is narrated by a character whose gender we never know.
