Trans Trender-A Profile and a bit about TMatesFTM (Part 2)

I'll begin Part 2 of this post with a comment from the lesbian that the previous post began, she asked me to post her reply to some of yesterdays comments:
That done, lets get on with the profile of our typical trans trender in the best way I know how, visually. Since it is visuals and the lack thereof that inform so many many trans trenders and the trans disorder in general:

And from her Tmates video, which illustrates some very bizarre weight changes from testosterone to her head/face, although clearly not enough changes to mask her natural female femininity that is obviously struggling to remain intact.

There you have it, the trans trender in picture, from an attractive young woman, to the early stages of a female monstrosity. We dont know what awaits her in the future, but given the short time she has been in transition, between the disastrous mutilative effects of surgery to the strange ugly effects of T, it doesnt look good. As she is far beyond being saved, we can only hope, regardless of any negativity she has caused or might cause to any woman, that the life transition has snuffed out, in the end doesnt snuff her out as well.

  1. Some transition are just body decay. As trendy as being pro-Ana.

  2. Can we have the name of the surgeon? Was it done at a military hospital in Libya? The scars are awful. The thumbs up a joke. I have compassion for this person.

  3. I feel so sad when I see what the male medical machine, as you properly call it, is doing to our healthy PERFECT female bodies!

A medicine seriously committed to women's health would be questioning society and stopping the mechanisms that make these women hate themselves so much they accept going through all of that violence.

What's even sadder is that most of them doesn't ever feel good about themselves after all this painful process. Yet the medical industry claims to be helping them when it's only amounting with more women suffering.

I hope we hear more dissenting voices like yours over time.

  4. Does this person has parents? A father, maybe a mother who care for and what do they think?

  5. Anon@12:10,

I'm told the parents are supportive of her transition. We can only speculate on why.

  6. What do they support exactly? A fashion trend launched in the US? How far and how well are they really documented? Do they know about the rebound effect 2-3 years after surgery/T when the dysphoria is there up and again?

  7. Anon@12:15,

We could ask those questions to the parents of every trans person since the male medical machine began this butchery and SHOULD.

  8. I suspect that in many cases what they are calling parental support simply means the parents are still in contact with them and still speaking to them. Most parents will at least stay in touch with their kids even if they do things that the parents disagree with.

    ReplyDelete
  9. I hate it when people look to the parents as if somehow the pre-transition kid could have avoided all this by talking to their parents. You're assuming all parents are reasonable and rational and have their kids' best interests at heart. If I'd told my parents that I was thinking of transitioning, my dad would have beat the f*ck out of me.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Why do transitioners would need the parents support or agreement by the way?
Do the parents understand really what is going on?
Seeking for parents support/validation for a transition is crazy.
What if you regret it later?
Will you come back to your ageing parents and tell them "you should have warned me! It is your fault: you were supportive..."
And most parents of transitioners those days are children of the beatnik culture so they prefer to be in a friendship than in an adult relationship with their kids: you want a piercing? Cool! You want your boobs removed? Great, I will drive you to the hospital!...

    ReplyDelete
  11. By the way, her boobs are not totally removed. There is still hope she could change her mind.

  12. This is a good example of a trender who will never pass as male no matter how much synthetic hormones they poison themselves with.

  13. well also, re: parents, when it comes to anything that their child might do that they might not approve of or think is healthy, they (the parents) don't exactly always have any influence. And sometimes people's kids will be like, "support me or I will not have contact with you again." It's not always parents who are the judgmental, I-will-disown-you-if-you-don't-obey party. Sometimes parents have no choice - either go along with what your child is going to do anyway, so that at least you have SOME relationship with them, or express your disapproval/try to talk them out of it or take any other steps to impede their actions, and face them (the kids) cutting you out of their lives.

I say this as someone who did more than a couple of things that my own parents would rather I had not done; had tried to "raise" me to be someone who wouldn't do those things, and influence me in any way they could to not end up doing such things, and who ended up doing them anyway. If anyone hassled me too much, including my parents, I simply would have cut off contact. Even as someone who is not a parent, I can still imagine the heartache in even taking that risk of having your child cut you out of his or her life.

So yes, some parents go along with or encourage misguided and/or unhealthy choices and actions in their kids. Some parents are abusive and so their (adult) children simply avoid them, let alone would they tell those parents what they're doing and seek any approval/advice from such abusive parents. And some parents have no choice if they want to keep a relationship at all with their daughters who want to transition.

  14. I want to say that I agree with a lot of what you post but this is just straight up mean.
I'm sure whomever this person is suffers from a myriad of body related issues already, not just gender issues. Pointing out that you think all these terrible things about him/her reminds me of mean crap I did in High School to people I didn't like. It's bullying and I think it's cruel. This is still a young and impressionable person that probably really cares about what others think... Posting this might really f*ck them up, in a bad way.

  15. "I'm sure whomever this person is suffers from a myriad of body related issues already, not just gender issues."

D, how can you diagnose it from a photo?

    ReplyDelete
  16. @Anonymous Because almost every person raised female has them.

    ReplyDelete
  17. @D, Dirt is trying to help this woman before she damages any further her body. In 2 years from now, it will be too late. She would have probably entertained her local lgbtqi scene and casual partners, but if she goes on, she will end up bald by 30. Thanks god, she till has a small female chest despite the surgery.

    ReplyDelete
  18. "Because almost every person raised female has them."
and raised as male do not?

That is silly! Everybody has issues as young adults and everybody goes through them as growing up: no needs to mutilate your boobs or to induce premature ageing with T. Just to face life and to be patient.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I'm not pro-transitioning and I'm not arguing that we should support her transition.

HOWEVER, I DO think it's somewhat cruel to single ONE person out and talk about how horrible you think they look. It's just mean.

Also, yes men have some body issues but you're kidding yourself if you think they're anything like those women have. I'm not even going to say anything further on that subject because it's a giant waste of time and I'm about to go out and drink margaritas with my hot butch girlfriend.

    ReplyDelete
  20. The timeline is interesting but all I see on those photos is just another white spoilt kid, a party goers, who wanted "his transition" like others want a car so hard...He follows all the extreme trends: piercing, body mutilation...No need to do a fuss about it. His appearance is not male and he certainly does not pass: he has the body of a woman. No surprise he attracts lesbians.
I am just wondering what happened to the cute little girl he used to be (see the first photo): is she dying along the transition?

    ReplyDelete
  21. "What's even sadder is that most of them doesn't ever feel good about themselves after all this painful process."

Yes they feel better after top surgery and then the depression is back again sooner or later. This trend of transitioning is a health catastrophe for our daughters.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I think that what this young woman has done to her body is, at the very least, an atrocity.
As a femme in my 40s, having seen many trends go in and out of fashion, I can say that this "FtM" business is simply no different. Unfortunately, unlike pogs, leg warmers, yo-yos, mullets or witch hunts, transitioning has an extremely dismal effect on the human body.
It is such a tragedy to see things like this happening with our young lesbian youth (and presumably young straight women as well).
I fail to understand why it is only this blog which makes known the dangers of transition. Why isn't this on the news? How hasn't some talk show picked up the concept?
As a university professor of gender and women's studies, I plan on adding this issue into my syllabus for the 2011/12 school year.

    I just pooped.

    ReplyDelete
  23. stop comparing this to pro-ana its completly different.

ok so this started about his immature treatment of a women?

had/has nothing to do with his physical appreance so really if he is happy then who are we to judge?

bring it back to his 'treatment' of a women. regardless of the age difference and that there is 2 sides, she was/is really hurt, and i hope that she has learnt from this what she can take in future relationships.

  25. She was such a beautiful girl and woman.
Why do kids want to transition those days?
It is obvious she will never pass sadly and will be stuck in a sort of unconfortable in-between gender.

But, in any case, I tend to agree the way this person behaved with his ex- is far more significant than any photos posted online.

This Tguy is probably a dominant woman an she thought transition will give her the "males privileges" of behaving like a bastard with every woman she/he met and of silencing his ex in a very dominant and abusive way...

I am pretty sure he tells to his new gf "no but with you, it is different: we do videos on TMates"...

  27. ok this person is a childish moron, a drama queen, probably a manipulative person hidden under a charming mask, so having a whole page dedicated to him and his ego does not give justice to other transguys who are valuable people and role models in their community.
And posting his photos re-inforce the image of victim of his ex- he is trying to build since their break-up among his friends and family members...
His monstruous level of mutilation and of non-maleness is already a payback for the pain he has inflicted.
    My recommendation: ignore this bastard.
There a ton of transguys vene in his own country who are more interesting than him.

  28. @Dirt, the parents are so "supportive of her transition", that his own father was skying in the French Alps (in Meribel resort) while his "son" was having his major T surgery.
And the kid has to wait 3 days for his mother to drive him back at home.

This is the kind of supportive family we are talking about.

So, Dirt, what do you think of this kind of support?

Can we agree to call it "nonchalance" instead of "support"?

    ReplyDelete
  29. You can't blame the father to escape a life like this. Maybe is it his way to say "I don't support and I prefer not to be there when you will have the boobs hacked off"? Maybe the guy is passive agressive?

    ReplyDelete
  30. Haha you guys. Staying in the hospital for 3 days is a standard procedure and often what the patient requires. You don't /need/ both parents to be present while you heal, a mastectomy is a standard procedure for the surgeons and easy and almost pain-free to heal from.

Many of you are jumping into strange conclusions and making unjustified remarks about this person's life and appearance. This is basically bullying.

    ReplyDelete
  31. It bizarres me how you waste your life hating others and trying your best to destroy their lives. It says a lot about you and how happy you are with your life. I can't even get angry with what you do, I feel sorry for you and every one else who wastes their energy hating.

I hope all the best to this particular guy and every one else who is being bullied and oppressed this way. You do not deserve this.

  32. What do you really expect from someone who calls his blog "one man show extended" (http://miksuxy.blogspot.com/) or his YouTube channel "number1alphafucker" (http://www.youtube.com/user/Number1AlphaFucker) or his photo gallery sirmichael (http://irc-galleria.net/user/SirMichael or ttp://www.flickr.com/photos/sirmichaelfinland)?
Apparently the "one man", the "sir", the "number1" state this person has a huge issue of recognition or is very childish/immature.

And by the way, I like one of his photo comment on Flickr "Little over 1 year on T and a new hairstyle.".
Poisoning his body with T, cutting off his boobs are as fulfilling as having a new haircut.
Dirt is fully right: he is the typical "trendsitionner", obsessed by his image and reputation, and not a FTM.

  33. Transition seems to be the trendy way to escape from a female adulthood.
I wonder what kind of parents "support" another teenagehood for their children at a time when they should normally enter a young adult life and be independent.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Apparently the guy is Finnish but he is a cliché of an american trans-trendsetter of the 90's: the thumbs-up, the look, the hairstyle...
It is like queer theorists from the 90's had just landed in his backyard while they are totally out now in the US.
Apart from manufacturing cell phones (and even here they needed Microsoft for help) or hosting Sant Claus, has this country a specific culture of its own? And for its trans-culture, do they copy blindly what they see on YouTube during their long winters or are they able to use their critical thinking to develop something different? How far this trendsetters are just normalised products of the US influence in Finland like imported american food and shared passion for baseball and hockey?

    ReplyDelete
  35. "I wonder what kind of parents "support" another teenagehood for their children at a time when they should normally enter a young adult life and be independent."

Um, the kind of parents whose trans child doesn't ask for or recieve money for surgeries or transition. The kind of parent who already knew their kid was trans and are relieved that the truth is finally out. The kind of parents who realize that transition is necessary for some people, including their children. NECESSARY, not tragic, not mutilation or "hacking", or any other characterization from an outside perspective. The kind of parent who can look their conservative friends in the eye and say "my son" without blinking. That takes more soul and more backbone than you will ever have. And that goes for the rest of you prattling twats.

    ReplyDelete
  45. "Anon 11:07 and Anon 11:23, when I look at his scars, it is obvious the only parents/family who can support this sort of butchery is the Addams family."

To be honest, those scars stay hidden for the most part. You don't exactly have to show your bare chest to anyone irl, except maybe sexual partners. That's why curing the mental dysphoria is way more important to some people, no matter what kind of scars they are left with.

Some parents also understand that the well being of a child is more important than some removed tissue and a couple red lines on their body.

In Finland everyone is also required to see at least six different doctors, therapists and other specialists for a timeline of 7-15 months before they are allowed to transition. That means several professionals agree that they are not suffering from any mental disorder that could cause their need to transition, it's not caused by some external motive and is very likely to last for the rest of the patient's life (about 99% of the transitioners in Finland never regret their decision).

That also makes most of the attacks here pointless.

    ReplyDelete
  46. "about 99% of the transitioners in Finland never regret their decision"

Yes but how many commit suicide while drunk and so are not reported?

    ReplyDelete
  47. "any mental disorder that could cause their need to transition"

so we can imagine than sleep deprivation for many years, severe anxiety and fibromyalgia coupled with a NPD may be a cause of exclusion of course?

    ReplyDelete
  48. "so we can imagine than sleep deprivation for many years, severe anxiety and fibromyalgia coupled with a NPD may be a cause of exclusion of course?"

I haven't heard of sleep deprivation or anxiety causing someone's trans feelings, only vice versa. The doctors seem to agree.
But lol surely a group of highly educated specialists are wrong with their every diagnosis! Go back to being proud lesbians/straight girls and stop this nonsense!

Also, there is no need to make this discussion even more sickeningly personal than it already is.

  49. If I had to choose and if I were finnish, I would go to the US for the top surgery: Garramore or Brownstein are far more superior to the surgeon who did this with all respect to finnish doctors.

Mengeles are everywhere my dear :D!

    ReplyDelete
  51. "Yes but how many commit suicide while drunk and so are not reported?"

Not many. The said group of doctors also keeps track of the patient's life and well being by meeting them at least once a year after the diagnosis has been given. To check if there are any feelings of regret or need to go off the T. Sorry.

    We are impressed.

    ReplyDelete
  56. "The transitioner you see in photo here used to nickname his doctor in Helsinki "Mengele" . Clean your own closet."

Yeah, but saying a group of 12 or so carefully chosen doctors, therapists and psychologists in two different hospitals are all "mengeles" just because they agree on something you don't and what is clearly done just to benefit the patient's well being is ridiculous.

    ReplyDelete
  57. "just to benefit the patient's well being is ridiculous."

    Future will tell.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Future has told. As stated before, only 1% of the diagnosed patients have experienced regret.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Anon @12:02 - You obviously know very little about European history. There are a bunch of countries over here, each with a distinctive culture/language, but the boarders have changed drastically over time and people are really mixed, and there are no "pure" anything.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Some really good comments made by some anonymous person here. In Finland all the transition processes are closely monitored: you need a diagnosis that you are transgendered and can therefore have all the needed treatments and surgeries.

It's so totally pointless to argue about "these beautiful young women". Not everyone born with a female body is a female. Errors occur.

It's sickening to go against one person like this, not to mention dragging in the family. Everyone should be busy living their own lives. In case someone has so much time in their hands that they can go on a personal rampage, they should maybe get something else to do. A job, friends, a relationship, hobbies?

    ReplyDelete
  61. "As stated before, only 1% of the diagnosed patients have experienced regret."

  63. Regret isnt supported anywhere, we've all seen what happened when Mike Penner "detransitioned" and like all trans studies, there are no long term studies or any real transparency with relation to "trans regret" as well as we do not know with any consistency which of the trans suicides were due to regret.

That you see this about an individual illustrates your lack of feminist knowledge and feminist filtering.

Paula is an example of the trans trender, she isnt the be all and end all of transition. She is what will continue to happen to young women all over the world until real feminism stands the fuck up and quashes this hetero-patriarchal "queer" bullshit the is reinforcing hyper femininity on females.

  76. Calling anyone a trans trender is speculation, and singling out one person for detailed speculation is intrusive. Its still not known whether there is a neurological cause in *some* cases of gender dysphoria. There are established mental illnesses which are known to present delusions relating to sex/gender - when a person wants to medically transition they go through psychiatric assessment for this precise reason.

The issue of 'brain sex' never even has to come up for the possibility of a neuro-biological cause - even if brains are sexually dimorphic in tiny areas this does not = a conscious knowledge of ones brain sex. A schizophrenic who thinks he is jesus doesnt actually have the brain of jesus christ, but it is still possible to accept that his delusions stem from something he has no control over.

    ReplyDelete
  77. And we learned decades ago that lobotomizing schizophrenic brains did nothing to "cure" them of their disease. When is the male medical machine going to learn brutalizing the brains AND bodies of transitioners doesnt "cure" them of their disorder either.

  80. You know, if you want to have some information on transitioning or trans people, there are hundreds or thousands of blogs on the interwebs. You don't really need to rely on this hate-blog if you wish to understand.

And if you don't wish to understand or know anything, I don't understand why don't you all just bugger off and get back to whatever important you were doing.

These pictures here are published without permission from this person, and I really don't understand why anyone would wish for more cases of hurting somebody's life and privacy.

I don't get all the hate in these comments. What does it matter to you if someone wishes to go through surgery you personally don't consider a good idea? Why do you need to tell what do you think of his abilities to pass? Really, if you don't have more important stuff to do in your life, or at least the decendy of letting other people live their own, maybe it's time you take a deep breath and reconsider.

You can't claim to have sympathy for someone without listening to them telling their own mind - that's called patronizing, not helping.

Complaining has nothing to do with whether the publishing of the pictures is legal or not. If there is no permission from the copyrights holder it is prohibited.

Also concentrating on this one particular person with only one person's perspective of the story is the least wise thing to do. Are you sure you are given the actual and all of the facts, Dirt?

  83. "Or the kind of parents who are so conservative, they feel more confortable to have a transFTM at home than a dyke?"

Yeah, because being a transsexual is so totally accepted by society now.
My parents were not comfortable with me as a dyke because I wasn't one. We all knew it. The minute I shared my true self with them, we got closer and continue to be closer. My Dad keeps my coming out/transitioning letter in his wallet. SO FUCK YOU.

Let god into your life? He will judge us, how about you leave us alone, obviously shit is happening, the end is coming, focus on yourself, your on the chopping block with us too

    ReplyDelete
  86. "This is a very good example of conservative parents preferring their daughters be trans rather than lesbian."

Exactly. When their child is trans, they would prefer them to be trans, rather than a "lesbian". For conservatives, having a transsexual son or daughter makes nothing easier to negotiate socially, but having a resonating truth come out tends to make things easier. It would be the same, I hope, if a person thought they were trans and then decided that they were truly lesbian or gay.

  87. How come if a person has body dysphoria about his/her boobs and would like to get rid of them that is not okay, but if somebody has body dysphoria about his/her boobs and enlarges them that is okay?

I used "His/Her" because gay males get breast implants, and they also get breast reductions. (FTM males get breast reductions, just as BIO males get breast reductions)

It is only gods place to judge the sins of others

    ReplyDelete
  88. I also wonder about this. I have a gay male acquaintance who had pretty bad gynomastia. He was fit and slender, but had breast tissue that kept him from socializing or pursuing relationships. He is not intersexed either. Admittedly, gay male culture can be really unforgiving when it comes to male bodies. Eventually he had a surgery that gave him a flat chest befitting his body type, and now he is happy and has moved on from his hang-ups. I wonder if the trans-negative people on this list would also condemn this man for pursuing this surgery. If so, upon what basis?

    ReplyDelete
  89. Anon 6:09

Some parents drank the kool aid too.
And yes it is more conservative to go for FTM transition to live as a straight male than to stand out for your rights as lesbian. Conservative parents, cautious of their own image, will be happier and comfortable with transidentity because the story they can tell is a story of normalisation. They know people would say " oh great now your kid is "normal". He is a straight guy who dates woman".

In the example above, we read in the comments her brother is a gay bio male apparently, so maybe this daughter loves so much her conservative parents, she decided, instead of being the lesbo of the family, to "give them a straight child" and so she transitioned. Maybe she thought that in her family, she will have a more dominant position being the "straight dude" than the dyke compared to her brother. Now she can describe the bro (even when joking) as "faggot" because it is a straight male joke.
You don't know how a family system works.
You don't know how competition works between brother and sister.
You don't know how far people are able to go at young adult age to please their parents: some go for studies they don't like to make heir parents happy but some other do transition.
Maybe the mom or the dad was depressed to have 2 homosexual kids at home and the daughted wanted her to be happy...
And about the "standard procedure" for the top surgery, the fact that the father so the main male role model of this person was no there when she was doing a surgery to go closer to malehood is significant of his lack of support...It has a symbolic meaning. It means: "I am your father but I don't believe at all your transition bullshit and so I will not accompagny you on that road". Yes, it is passive aggressive.

And some of them do transition to have a normal life: some of us do live in towns where you can't even find a gay bar and we don't go there.

I am a trans guy and I have taken my STRAIGHT sister and her BOYFRIEND to the gay bar for a few drinks and some dancing. What's wrong with that? The gay bar I go to is for the LGBT community and I am good friends with the owner who I should add does not discriminate against anyone. As a matter of fact two trans guys work the bar! If you don't want us in "your" so called bars then stay the hell out of "straight" bars and clubs! I see plenty of dykes in the "straight" bar that I go to sometimes....AND???? Not everyone is judgmental and crap! Some people just aren't closed minded and accepts people for who they are. It's freaking 2011 for heaven's sake!

If you discriminate just because someone is FTM it makes me wonder if you discriminate against peoples religion or race also. From your comment you probably do as close minded as you seem to be.

I totally agree with you! A gay bar is not just for lesbians! It's for everyone! Should I bitch, moan, and groan about some dyke being in a straight bar? I wouldn't do that. I am not close minded and ignorant as some of these people are on here.

You need to move on from your pain in the past and just suck it up and get over it already. Not everyone is some stick in the mud! I have plenty of feminist friends and they aren't men hating close minded people like you in any way.

It's all good to stand up for women's rights but to be hateful and crap? You are obviously gonna say you aren't hateful but you are. I mean do you ever sleep? Are you ever not online obsessing over youtube videos of transguys? Do you even have a life? Maybe you never had any male role models or something. Maybe some guy hurt you in the past. Guess what? So have I! Doesn't mean I need to go hating on men and crap. Maybe you need to get into therapy or something.

You'll find some way to put my comment down as you do with just about every comment from trans guys to make yourself look better. You really need to check yourself and find out where all this hatred stems from. You say you are just trying to help? I think not! For you to post pics of people and to single out one trans guy is just wrong.

I have no room for discrimination in my life and I don't tolerate it by any means.

  96. I'd like to understand the reasons behind this blog. This is very similar to the sites where "god hates fags" etc.

It makes me wonder about the fact how short sighted people actually are while judging each and every group of people.

But I quess this is how it is today. You can be a lesbian and violently segregate transpeople. You can call for your rights yet discriminate equally discriminated group of people. Sounds silly to me but people are different.

I myself don't understand butch lesbians at all. Why do they hide their femininty behind short haircuts, swear and drink like men and act all pushy where ever they go.
It's like they hang on their female rights yet stand aside when ever they are required to act like women.
At least FTMs try to act like men, fit in to the men's world which is much harder way of living than a butch female lesbian could ever imagine.

I know, the world is upside down and you can't do much about it. You might as well accept people being different. You don't have to understand it.

I have heard how they talk about women and their girlfriends....it's just disgusting and yet I have never heard a man talk like that before...well except in movies.

It's okay for them to look and act worse than men but they want their cake and eat it to. They will be more disgusting than men yet put their feminist panties on when the time is right or when it fits the moment for them....just disgusting to me!

Lesbian bars are gay bars which includes everyone and doesn't exclude FTM's. There's plenty of lesbians that go to the "straight" sports bar that I go to once in a while but no one complains about them. Hmmmmm!!!! Maybe you need not worry about what we are doing and worry about yourself! We have lesbian friends which isn't a crime. I have lots of lesbian friends who i go out and have dinner with and go to bars with. So should we segregate restaurants and all public places also? Maybe to make you happy we should also go back to the 50's and have black and white drinking fountains!

  102. Just some background information: Finland is such a small country, it has a very small LGTQI scene, bars, clubs.
They have 2 private owned places in the whole Finland: one in Turku (Suxes) and one in Helsinki (DTM). And that is true either Suxes or DTM accept everybody who enters in.

So they don't understand when american gay, lesbians or FTM mention "lesbian only places".

They don't have lesbo only places unlike other Western countries. They don't live in cities where you have 3/4 lesbo only bar, 10/20 lesbo only non profit...
They are out this modern reality: it is quite underdevelopped there.
It also explains why the trans fad (which started in the late 80's in SF) is just starting there and it also explains why they have this queer bullshit talk they think it is new but has been abandonned elsewhere: they think they are trendy but they are already outfashioned. I don't know if they know Lady Gaga yet?

And there are so few gay, lesbo, transpeople (the wftm Finland forum has 10 active members. the others are looking ;), they all go to the same place and they all know each others and fuck with each others...

Just wanted to clarify this misunderstanding.

There are: 5 people registered as FTM, 1000 as gay males, 200 as dykes. That is all.

You have no clue what it is like being FTM and knowing there are people like you out there who are so judgmental and discriminative! Just like being gay we have no choice! Questioning the treatment of mental illness via transition is fine. What bothers me is this: you make an example of one person, seek to humiliate them and berate them for following a trend. You then admit that transgenderism could be a mental illness, and by extension this person could be mentally ill.

This is the point where your valid line of questioning crosses over into mocking and stigmatising a mentally ill person.

  155. Dirt,

I've been reading your blog for sometime now and even though I find your methods a little harsh I want to say that I do enjoy your blog. I think its good that you've created an alternative perspective to transitioning rather than the glamourized images that plague the internet.

I noticed that there are a lot of young 'kiddies' (anyone under 20) that are starting to transition. Now, I having nothing agaisnt the trans community at all, but seriously, I don't think that children that age should be starting. It's not something that should be taken lightly at all. I have a good friend that is trans that transitioned when he was 23 and part of him regrets it. Not because he isn't happy with his results, but because there is A LOT of stuff these people aren't prepared for (ie. Loss of community, loss of partners, potential job loss during transiton, healthcare issues), which I really think these people need to be aware of. I think that these people are just getting caught up with the glamor of it rather than what it actually is.

I really think that these 'trenders' are taking away from the trans community and the individuals who thought out all the possible pros and cons of transitioning before they started.

I think you should keep doing what your doing Dirt. Although I'd really like to see an alliance between FTMs and Lesbians, I doubt its going to happen because everyone seems so set on putting each other down to validate their own authenticy.

That means several professionals agree that they are not suffering from any mental disorder that could cause their need to transition, it's not caused by some external motive and is very likely to last for the rest of the patient's life."

It is the most interesting comment on this page. It is a description of the way Finnish Heathcare System is taking care of its potential GID patients but it can applies to all countries where official teams, centers or official standards of care are set-up.
Finland is not unique: they simply apply the H. Benjamin standards of care like any other countries.

Then, let’s talk about this: let’s talk about a group of specialists making a decision, a major life one, with what we call a group decision making process…They all have diploma and depending on the country and their own tenure, their can have a small or broad experience about trans-topics and may or may be not trained to detect “false positive”. False positives in the medical sector are:
*people who fake symptoms (but in fact have other issues: for GID, it may be NPD)*
or who are smart transitioners in perfect health but seeking of transition as a way to be unique (trendsetters)
*or simply people who are keen to develop all sort of mythomania including rare disease.

We call them “false positive” by reference to statistics (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Type_I_and_type_II_errors).

A diagnosis of a doctor and moreover a group of doctors is always done under a certain margin of error.
Doctor decisions are based on beliefs and so when doctors do a diagnosis, they in fact do assumptions and their decision falls under statistics laws.
And the way a group of doctors interacts (group leader or not, people relying on each other, big ego) can increase this error (yield) and it can leads to a bias and so a wrong diagnosis.

So having a yes for GID from a group of doctors never means they are 100% sure the person has GID.
Only low educated people can believe this. Parents who are not smart. Friends who are impressed by doctors and who do not know a clue at Stats.

When doctors means "yes for GID", it means they have enough materials in their files to protect their own ass (and asset: it is a business, remember! ;) and it also explains why they follow the patient: they do it to detect false positive throughout their entire life. When you think the observation period is over, it just starts.

So, imagine the women, the potential transitioner. This person has access to YouTube, an impressive numbers of forum online, of personal websites, of timeline, of videos, of photos, of different stories and attitude, of information. She can even talk with some people who are in the same process with the same doctors….

Now I am asking you a question to all readers and I am asking this question personally to Dirt:

*What is the chance, she may fake, willingly or not, GID symptoms with a lot of reality and may be diagnosed positive whereas this person is a “false positive”?
*How big is this chance in a country like Finland with a sample of 10 FTM throughout the country?

  167. Did you know that YouTube Vlogs are copyrighted under the US law? I bet you didnt.

In fact any persons that create a movie for whatever purpose be it autobiography (as in vlogs) or fictional. Automatically come under copyright law (1976) and in fact if you want to make it extra legal you can register your copyright for $45, but actually thats only really required if you have an infringement under your copyright.

YouTube is the tool used to show your movies and under their terms and conditions only they have the right to distribute your movies.

Amazing what you can find out if you ring people up and have little chats with their legal department.

So screengrabbing YouTube vidoes, is an infringement under Copyright law, and thats Internationally too.

Also a little legal bird told me that ID'ing people, in a situation like this. Where extremists can take matters into their own hands and harrass these users, is classed as incitement to commit hate crimes. Again a criminal charge can be brought against anyone who incites criminal activity. Hate crime against gender identified people, is frowned upon within US law.

Trouble is Dirt you cant control what people do after they read your stuff, the fact you are the publisher, means YOU are liable and the incitee. You can get legal advice, and check it out. If someone as a result of your blog harasses or send hate mail to a party you have exposed. YOU are the inciter....This is happening!

Also those photos, are also protected under copyright law, unless you have the written permission of the owner, you cant publish them, its called copying, as a blog is a publishing tool. Again Blogger are very helpful if you give them a call. Just because they were found on the internet does not mean, you or anyone owns them. As soon as those photos were 'created' they became protected under Copyright law.

So all you transmen that think you cant do anything. You can, you just need to report her for copyright infringement and incitement to hate crime.

His ageing appearance with a huge baldness and not even the possibility to look male with a beard will make him the center of mockery...So let him enjoy the fame his trans-status gives him in his small town and scene. It won't last. There is a lot of competition between transguys and from the young 20s something. He will live all his life with the regrets of transitioning for a fad and with the sadness of not having been helped by friends and family.

  177. Those women trendsetter who go for ultimate body modification like cutting off breast or injecting T are just poseur. If they were true transpeople, they would go for a bottom surgery and accept the risk from it.
Then I find pathetic their desire to conform to male gender and to try to have secondary sexual characteristics just because they fear holdng their girlfriend in the streets and so cannot cope to be different and be a lesbian.
In teh case of this person, she completely failed having those male sexual characteristics and she looks like a butchered female.
It is so boring to go for such awaful body changes, to be be such a normalised conventional person just to please your family and social environment.
And it is moreover silly to go for the surgeon next door: those scars are awful. I bet the surgeon had only experiences with breast removal for cancer not reconstruction for transpeople.
This person is grotesque and it is sad to see such a result.
And all the trans"brothers who comment "it is great" are just filthy hypocrit. It reinforces the feeling those kids do not even have enough balls or guts or brain to agree they see a medical failure when there is one. They loose all credibility doing so. And I suspect them to compete between each others, to say "it is great" and then to mock this person in the back. So who is the hypocrit hater at the end?

  181. What gets me, is that this individual was NO BUTCH! Used to be, realtime REAL FTM's were hardcore Butch, often Stone Butch, simply could NEVER fit into ANY female role, not even being a Butch Dyke, even too hardcore for most Lesbians in their maleness, and from a very, very young age they were always hardcore tomboys/males, but NOWADAYS so many of the genderqueer/FTM types are actually FEMININE...proudly in dresses, girly clothes, girly face, lipstick, ect. and they think just DRESSING BUTCH makes them Butch, but because they aren't TRULY BUTCH, like Dirt, myself, my partner or the many myriad Butches I've known, Butch is NOT ENOUGH for them because they're basically feminine, like this one. Some have even admitted to being in beauty contests and fashion models AS FEMALES, before they transition.

So, they think the power is in the male, and NOT in their female body as they've expressed it through femininity..so then they want to take on a false masculinity THEY HAVE NEVER HAD...and try to convince you they 'really are a dude' and the only way to convince, they think is to transition to male...with all the attendant male sexism and attitudes. These mostly are no 'feminist, soft men' except for those who become faghags, were faghags and start going after gay/bi guys.

I've seen face after face, and they look at a hardcore obvious Butch WOMAN/DYKE like Dirt and say 'oh well, she's just a closety FTM', cuz Dirt has NATURALLY what they do not. And yet Dirt has LEARNED to accept her Femaleness and her Dykeness, instead of reject it, as a Butch. They are jealous of this, and have attempted to convince every hardcore Butch these days, or at least many of them that they really are 'men', like we've been told for so long 'you're just an imitiation male'. It is the Butch Female that is hated, and her Lesbianism...and we see it over and over again, becoming FTM is CONFORMING to the gender binary, not eliminating it!

Many are not this strong, and sadly, I've known too many Butches who do succumb to this pressure who begin to identify as male, 6 months later I see 'em and they've decided to transition cuz all the others around them are doing the same.....

Transitioning is NOT empowerment for either Butches, Dykes or women, and will not replace our civil rights AS women, AS Lesbians or those who love the same sex, other Females, and will not give us the power ultimately, except unless you live a life in stealth and can suitably 'pass' as a man, while rewriting your whole history at the expense of body mutilation, and a damaging of your sex/sexuality.

Actually your wrong, under the 1976 Copyright US law, that might have been true but amendments were made in 1986 to the law. You do not have to have a copyright symbol on them for them to be copyrighted. Its only ADVISABLE. In order to prove copyright they advise you to do this. However with the advent of digital photography, EXIF data is now available for most digital photographs, making copyright symbols unnecessary, as the digital data (ie dates, camera that took it etc etc) can be embedded in the photograph itself.

People don't sue left right and center, because its really very expensive to bring it before the courts!

I am a photographer, so I speak from experience.

Unless it comes from non copyrighted stock, IE stock photos. Its copyrighted. Any person can find out this information its not hard.

Why do you think photo journalists have to get waivers? The only reason the papperazi get away with taking photographs of celebrity's is because they snapshot them in a public place. The law is different for this reason.

Its really irrelevant, if this transmen isnt bothered about his photographs being on the blog or not. The fact they are without his written permission is an infringement of copyright law. Blogger is a PUBLISHING tool, so the law applys.

There is such a thing as fair comment, but even then you have to be careful. You can criticise or review a youtube video, 'if' you use youtube to do that, but as soon as you screenshot a youtube video, or download that video. Your breaking copyright law.

So for example all those people who download youtube music video's are breaking the law. Actually if you download them and copy them onto your phone or even a blank disc you could be done for piracy, as well as copy infringement. As its seen as 'distribution', non commercial copying still applys. We all break the law everytime we copy music, its a very grey area.

As soon as a vlogger uploads his/her video, its covered under copyright, with special rules applying under the terms and conditions of YouTube. Anyone can prove copyright by copyrighting their video's at time of upload, but even that isn't necessary as youtube logs the time and date their uploaded and thats all thats needed to prove copyright.

Know your copyright law, before you scoff at it as 'scare tactics'.

Also I watched his girlfriends Vlog and I thought she was very sweet, and well spoken. Well done to her!

I didn't see it as a vlog against Dirt I saw it as a Vlog against intolerance and discrimination and hate. Not a bad thing in my book.

Remember the roots we came from, wasn't that long ago my car was egged, because of me being gay, we all came from these roots. We all seem to have really short memorys!

I wonder how it feels to remove healthy boobs like she did for this woman. I see it really as an integrity conflict. Personaly I would have refused to perform the surgery. She could do it as she was doing it in a public healthcare system but she didn't. Sadly.

  194. This person is a woman and she will not pass everytime she has to be naked in front of strangers which is quite often in Finland because of the sauna culture.
A substantial part of Finnish culture is sauna. They meet in sauna while in the US, people meet at Starbucks or Borders. There are five million inhabitants and over two million saunas in Finland. You go to sauna with friends, family, co-workers...I know it may sound weird for prude american transmales but this woman is screwed. There is no way she will pass as male...Her boss will know she is trans, her co-workers, her friends, friends of friends and with 5 million inhabitants, everybody will be aware. Add on top of that the nordics naturists culture and you will see how stupid it is to transition in Finland...
So there is no reason to blame Dirt for this exposure as in any case, this person will have to be exposed...
