Lesbian Based Orgs-Lesbian Based Student Orgs

Please comment with any lesbian based orgs and lesbian based students orgs that you are aware of, regardless of country. I would like to compile a list which will be kept at the side of the blog for lesbians who are looking for lesbian specific places they can donate their time/money and efforts to. Or if you are considering or in the process of beginning a lesbian based group, let us know.

  1. I think the "Lone blogger", has a long reach. People are talking about your highly enlightening blog, whether they agree with you or not. It's likely, you intimidate them.

This organisation (see FB page) is supporting lesbians and fight violence within the lgbtq community in France. They are mostly active in collecting testimonials against FTM rapists like Kael T Block...

  4. It would be great if we could also locate listings for true feminist therapists. What I'd specifically like to see is listings of therapists and counselors who would be helpful to young women like the trans trenders, and young women who have issues with self-harm and body image disorders. Surprisingly it is hard to find counselors and therapists with a strong feminist consciousness who really understand the issues teens are facing. As we have found with our daughter, some of the counselors and therapists are really lacking in these areas and can even make problems worse.

  6. The National Women's Law Center is 100% focused on women and girls. They are not a lesbian organization per se, but they are 100% WOMAN focused.

  7. DM Dirt responded to your therapists comment in the Kate Kendell thread (by accident). Not sure if she can move it.

  8. What do you think feminist therapy for gender issues should involve? I don't know whether cognitive-behavioral therapy would help people recognize how gender roles are constructed, but I think it's supposed to be one of the more effective approaches for body issues and depression.

I don't think there is any one type of therapy that would work for every person. The etiology (cause/origin) of the distress is going to be different for each person. Some will have dysphoria related to PTSD, others will have a more cognitive-based belief system about their body that needs challenging. What anyone experiencing internal or external pressure toward transition needs is a space where they (in their body) are completely and unconditionally accepted so that they can learn to have that unconditional acceptance for themselves. For one therapist, that safety, respect, and acceptance may be accompanied by CBT while another therapist may use a psychodynamic approach. The approach isn't the key. The key is helping the client learn to completely accept and love themselves. I believe when people reach that level, transition will not be a goal anymore for the vast majority of people.

I'm a radical feminist therapist. I'm not a lesbian (I'm bisexual) but would like to be featured on a list if anyone creates it and is willing to put a non-lesbian on it. I am trying to keep my anonymity on comments on this blog (because of fear of retaliation) but would be happy to provide Dirt with my real name and contact info if anyone wants it.
